What historical event may have motivated Edgar Allan Poe to write Eldorado?

I visited grammamy's house yesterday in Baltimore. The place where I first met Edgar. I was but a wee girl of of 3, but he wanted to get married. My mother said I must wait until I was at least 13. Then we were married. "Good morning Baltimore! Every day's like an open door, every night is a fantasy, every sound like a symphony!" This is truly how I feel.
